IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

As I have read the reports of conditions on the ground in Zimbabwe, I have been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the situation. To the point where I have found myself thinking “what’s the use?” What can I do to help with this huge disaster?

But I realized that we can do something! Doing “anything” helps us accomplish something. Doing nothing accomplishes exactly that – nothing!

We sent the e-mail and made the commitment to buy the food, nappies (diapers), and needed medical supplies. We received the following e-mail from Fatima (director of 3 orphanages) yesterday.

“May God whom you serve so faithfully bless you indeed. We had come to the end of our rope and you came through for the children. I have already secured the whole food order. What a miracle.”

The food for 180 orphans arrived on the day they had run completely out of all food! We did something! There is much more we can do if we will just do something.

We are asking you again to help us help these people in their time of extreme need.

All public hospitals are shut down because there is no water, soap, medicines (not even aspirin), or money to pay the doctors and nurses.

A friend who is a doctor took some food to a rural area last weekend. While there three young mothers came to him for help with their babies. The babies and the mothers were starving to death. To survive, the moms were drinking their own breast milk!

It doesn’t have to be this way!

We can do something! And, we are doing something to get food to the people. It is available for purchase, all we need is the money in the hands of our team on the ground. We need your help with whatever you can do. We don’t have problems in comparison to the problems these people are facing.

James 1:27 – “True, undefiled religion is to help the widows and orphans in their time of distress and not be corrupted by the world.” It goes on to say that faith without doing good deeds is not faith at all.

We are exercising our faith in God for these people by doing good deeds for them in their time of distress! Please help us to help them by doing something, a good deed!

Blessings,

Bruce & Camella

The picture below is of a two year old suffering from Kwashiorkor – an extreme condition caused by food deficiency – in this case a total lack of protein. The symptoms are swelling of extremities; lethargy; weakness; stunted growth.

If You See a Need – Maybe God wants You to Meet It!

We have a confession to make. We have been so sidetracked by the things going on in our own lives and nation, that we have been slow to respond to the needs of those whom God has put upon our hearts.

The nation of Zimbabwe and the plight of its people has definitely become low priority in the world news. We cannot even begin to tell you of the devastating conditions in Zimbabwe. To tell the story, we will include e-mail excerpts from our friends.

“There is a serious water problem in the country – particularly in Harare. There have been places that have gone without water for up to three months. Those who do have water, it is not clean, which has led to a subsequent decline in hygiene standards. Some have resorted to digging wells in their yards and others are now using river or even stagnant water to drink.”

“There is no municipal water anymore, the main hospitals have closed, all government schools have stopped functioning, our utilities have ceased, and there is no access to Zimbabwe money.”

“A Zim dollar is now the equivalent of: ZIM $4,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 to one US dollar. No one even knows what you call that amount of money.”

A cholera outbreak has hit Harare because of severe water shortages. There is still a great need for more nappies as the lack of water has created such unclean conditions.”

“Sir, food is our number one priority – especially maize, sugar, wheat and cooking oil. Our stocks are running very low. If I can get the four commodities, the children will survive.”

Can you even believe what these people are suffering through? WE must immediately provide funds for these basic commodities in the orphanages. Last month we took on the project of providing cloth nappies (diapers) for disabled children. More are needed to prevent children from laying in their own excrement. Our partner in Harare, Max, has located the nappies and commodities and is just waiting for us to get the funds into his hands. A dozen nappies can be purchased for $20. A ton of maize or a ton of sugar is $1,000; 200L of cooking oil is $500; and 1 ton of wheat is $600. Any way that you can help would be so appreciated. You can save lives through your giving!

Maybe you will be like us: we know that we have seen a need and we must meet that need. If you can help in any way, we know that God will multiple what you can sow.

I have included pictures of children who need food and nappies, and empty grocery store shelves in Harare.

We are now set up to receive credit card contributions on this website or mail your checks to: NNMSII, 507 Ashburne Glen Circle, Ovilla TX 75154.
