If You See a Need – Maybe God wants You to Meet It!

Friday, November 14th, 2008

We have a confession to make. We have been so sidetracked by the things going on in our own lives and nation, that we have been slow to respond to the needs of those whom God has put upon our hearts.

The nation of Zimbabwe and the plight of its people has definitely become low priority in the world news. We cannot even begin to tell you of the devastating conditions in Zimbabwe. To tell the story, we will include e-mail excerpts from our friends.

“There is a serious water problem in the country – particularly in Harare. There have been places that have gone without water for up to three months. Those who do have water, it is not clean, which has led to a subsequent decline in hygiene standards. Some have resorted to digging wells in their yards and others are now using river or even stagnant water to drink.”

“There is no municipal water anymore, the main hospitals have closed, all government schools have stopped functioning, our utilities have ceased, and there is no access to Zimbabwe money.”

“A Zim dollar is now the equivalent of: ZIM $4,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 to one US dollar. No one even knows what you call that amount of money.”

A cholera outbreak has hit Harare because of severe water shortages. There is still a great need for more nappies as the lack of water has created such unclean conditions.”

“Sir, food is our number one priority – especially maize, sugar, wheat and cooking oil. Our stocks are running very low. If I can get the four commodities, the children will survive.”

Can you even believe what these people are suffering through? WE must immediately provide funds for these basic commodities in the orphanages. Last month we took on the project of providing cloth nappies (diapers) for disabled children. More are needed to prevent children from laying in their own excrement. Our partner in Harare, Max, has located the nappies and commodities and is just waiting for us to get the funds into his hands. A dozen nappies can be purchased for $20. A ton of maize or a ton of sugar is $1,000; 200L of cooking oil is $500; and 1 ton of wheat is $600. Any way that you can help would be so appreciated. You can save lives through your giving!

Maybe you will be like us: we know that we have seen a need and we must meet that need. If you can help in any way, we know that God will multiple what you can sow.

I have included pictures of children who need food and nappies, and empty grocery store shelves in Harare.

We are now set up to receive credit card contributions on this website or mail your checks to: NNMSII, 507 Ashburne Glen Circle, Ovilla TX 75154.
