“I’ll Be Your Blanket”

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

We wanted to give you a current status report regarding Operation Cover-Up. As of this date, New Name Mission Society has received the funds for 3,000 blankets. We have been able to send the funds to Zimbabwe (and distribute) 4,500 blankets!!! The stories keep coming of the blessing the blankets have been to some of the poorest people in the world. A young man in our church named Jacob had the opportunity to hear Bruce tell another gentleman the progress of Operation Cover-Up. A few days later Jacob contacted us and told us of his desire to plant some “seed” in Africa. After telling him aboutOperation Cover-Up and of the need there were for blankets at the Champions HIV Camp, Jacob sent us a contribution to fund 100 BLANKETS! We were humbled and amazed that such a young man(only 19 or 20 years old) has grabbed onto the principle of giving! Thank you, Jacob, for giving…and the young teens at the Champions HIV Camp thank you too!
We want to dedicate the remainder of the 200 blankets given out to these kids who have bee n ostracized by their community and often their families because of being infected with HIV, to a young man named Noah Zachary Moreland. Noah’s parents, Mike & Betty, are Bruce’s cousins. They have been faithful supporters of NNMSII and this year lost their beloved and special son, Noah. Noah possessed a special talent of writing and at his memorial a book of his writings was shared with those who attended. We want to share with you one of his writings – you will be amazed at its signficance:
“I’ll Be Your Blanket”
Raindrops began to fall
Filling my bucket with time
First a puddle,
Then a pond,
Then a lake and on and on.
My drought is over
Blown away by gusts of wind
After I am through the storm
I turn around to view its work
Water canyons, burning bush
But most of all
I see her
Frozen, huddled on the ground.
I run to her in my slow motion
To her small body,
Lift her head in my hands
And just stare there into her eyes.
I wrapped my blanket around her body
And prayed aloud that she’d survive;
Survive this thing to be with me,
To be with me,
To set me free.
Two young men – two lives who have chosen to “cover-up” others through the gifts that God has given them.
It is one of the coldest winters ever in Zimbabwe. Daily we are receiving requests from the rural areas, in particular, for blankets. Operation Cover-Up continues – our goal is 10,000 blankets! $7 to “ cover-up” a cold child with a warm blanket…will you be someone’s blanket? Thank you for being a blessing to others.
