We wanted you to see a report of an Operation Cover-Up distribution. This distribution was done in honor of Zack Mayo (12 years old) – our dear friend – who fought a very courageous battle with liver cancer.
This report was submitted by Christian Medical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, a group of young medical students who are making an impact upon their nation Zimbabwe AND partnering with NNMSII to distribute blankets through Operation Cover-Up. We have included the report just as written.

CHILDRENS HOME FEEDBACK

Jesus said,”Let the children come unto me for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”. Matthew 10:14. It’s such a warmth bringing feeling to see and understand the love that our Lord and savior Jesus Christ has for children. As the Christian Medical Fellowship of Zimbabwe we believe that we must also have compassion for children of all ages to continue with the example that our Lord set for us. On Saturday the 18th June a team of 21 CMFZ members visited the Harare Children’s Home. This home shelters 95 children of varying ages from toddlers to 21 year old from different backgrounds each with a different story, some are victims of abuse others were rejected by their parents or are orphaned. Most of these children have never experienced the joy of being a part of a family and all they have are deep scars of rejection and a tormenting past.

Our goal was to bring and share the Love of Christ by his word affirming life, peace, joy and also action by physical touch and donating Blankets, Sanitary pads, cough medicine and buckets. Upon arrival we were greeted by the authorities who gave us a briefing of the history of the place and a glimpse into the life and past of these children. We were however given strict orders not to take photos of the children during the event as it was prohibited by the National Children’s welfare council thus we did not get any photos of the little angel.

After the opening prayer we interacted with children through song and dance as we had a time of praise and worship. It was amazing the enthusiasm that these children had as they sang with no restraint or shadow of fear. The team the presented a drama of David and Goliath with a modern twist to encourage them that no matter the circumstance they could put all their trust in the Lord.

We then got to the time to make our presentation to the children. Chenai Mukumbuzi took time to honour and explain how the blankets were given in remembrance of a very special young boy called Zack Mayo who battled Liver Cancer for a year and the went to Join the Father in heaven. It was an emotional moment as the children were captivated by a story of love extended to them by this special young boy and his family. She then demonstrated the love of Christ as she took a blanket and wrapped around herself as representation of how the love of Christ covers us in the spirit. We also managed to give away sanitary pads for the young girls which were donated by pastor Legis out of the abundance of love in her heart. Lastly we gave away a boxful of cough mixture to beat the winter and buckets as well. Altogether we gave away 100 blankets, 2 cartons sanitary pads, boxful of cough mixture and 20 buckets.

We went off to lunch and after lunch we spent time playing basketball, volleyball and soccer with the children. The girls then had a group session with the adolescent girls to talk about womanhood and also advice on the weightier issues of life. Dr Tafadzwa Shuro our very own dentist then ended our day off with a talk on oral hygiene, a session that was well received by the younger ones. It had been a life changing experience putting a smile on these children faces. We learned to realize more and more how making a difference in ones life was a ministry to one’s own soul.

Our gratitude goes out to Pastor Bruce Binkley and Pastor Sandy Roberts for the donation of blankets, Pastor Legis for the sanitary pads, Dr Reid for all the support and assistance that you gave us. We thank you Dr Reid our mentor and father for supporting us and giving us sound advice. We hope and pray that the Lord bless you for the seed you have sown.

Till then may the Lord bless you and may you remain rock solid unshakeable.

We thank each of you who have been a part of Operation Cover-Up. There is so much more to do! Thousands of blankets are needed for Zimbabwean children who have no warmth. You can be a part for just a donation of $5 per blanket.

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving in our nation we, like you, recall all of the blessings we have received in the past year. We are truly thankful.

Camella and I are very thankful for our family and friends as I am sure you are. However, we are also very thankful for the way many of you have helped us in the past few years to help so many people who need to know that God knows where they are, knows their name and most importantly, He loves them!

You have helped us to carry this message of “hope” to thousands of children in Zimbabwe through “Operation Cover Up.” This year we have been able to cover nearly 10,000 children with a warm blanket and give them the message that God loves them and “has them covered by His hand.”

Thankfully, we will be able to continue to purchase blankets for distribution again next winter. I am told there are over 1 million children in Zimbabwe alone who need a blanket. I guess you could say there is a current need!

We have also continued our work with the poor, widows and orphans in Vietnam by partnering with Giving It Back To Kids and our dear friends Robert and Dorothea Kalatschan. By providing food, shelter, education, life saving heart surgeries and life changing orthopedic surgeries for the past several years, we are beginning to see a nation change! Yes…a nation is being changed because God’s unconditional love is being shown to people and they are now beginning to see a hope for their future!

Showing God’s love to people with no strings attached does miraculous things in their hearts!

We are “thankful” to be a part of what God is doing as we endeavor to fulfill the call of God on our lives to “care for (go visit) the poor, the widows and the orphans in their time of distress” – James 1:27.

We are thankful for all of you who have helped us in the past and present to give “hope to the hopeless.”

We are asking that you please consider supporting our efforts in the future. The opportunity to show thousands of less fortunate people, many of them children, that God loves them is great and the time is now. The doors are open to change nations by showing one person at a time that God loves them.

Your monthly financial support in any amount will provide hope for a future to many. We are also asking you to consider a year-end gift to help us help people. We are a blessed people – so we can be a blessing to others.

On behalf of our family and all of the people around the world that you have helped us to help this past year, we say “thank you!”

We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a God filled Christmas season.

We are thankful for you!

Incredible things have been happening with Operation Cover-Up. 2,500 blankets were just distributed in the last week at Hopley Farm, the re-settlement community where there are 5,000 orphaned and vulnerable children. These pictures show just a small representation of the children experiencing God covering them with a blanket of His love.

We have now been asked for 2,000 more blankets for children in the community of Machipisa in the same situation – cold and with no cover.

How can we not do this?

God has shown us the children in need and given us the source for the blankets to meet the need and He is our provider! All we must do is have faith in Him, and do “what” He says to do, obey. His job is the “how” – getting the blankets funded. And, He is faithful!

I still remember the day at Hopley Farm three years ago asking God why He kept showing me more and more children in need and His reply was, “Because I want you to do something about it!” All I know to do is to continue to help cover up these children with a blanket of His love and keep trusting Him to meet the need.

So, YES! We can do this with God on our side!

Cover up the children in Machipisa!!

As temperatures fall to some of the coldest in recent years in Zimbabwe, we are very busy “covering up” the children with a blanket of God’s love!

Thank you for the help you have given us in the past few months to make it possible to distribute over 5,000 blankets to very needy, and extremely thankful, children all across Zimbabwe.

Two weeks ago in Kadoma our friends “covered up ” 500 children who had been identified with the help of the local schools. As one child received the blanket she said, “For the first time I will be warm!”

Thank you for providing warmth for this little one and for many more in the same situation!

Today I am asking you to help us as much as you possibly can to continue to “cover up” these precious children with a $5 blanket that will change their life!

On Saturday August 7, 2010 we will distribute another 2,500 blankets to needy and cold children at Hopley Farm, the resettlement community just outside Harare, the capitol of Zimbabwe. You may remember Hopley Farm because of the event that occurred there several years ago – over 40,000 people were “resettled” on an abandoned farm after their homes were destroyed by the government in a “clean-up” campaign!

Hopley Farm is also the place where we have distributed hundreds of pairs of shoes in the past, but more recently thousands of blankets. It is actually the place where we got started with “Operation Cover Up” two years ago when we distributed 2, 000 blankets to the toddlers and infants of the camp.

This distribution on August 7th will be part of an event called Champions for Christ with Dr. Andrew Reid. Over 5,000 HIV infected children will gather at Hopley Farm for a day long Champions Camp where they will be fed, loved and encouraged.

We have made the commitment to Dr. Reid that we will provide blankets for those who need them at this and other Champions Camps.

At the Champions Camp we will “cover up” another 2,500 children with a blanket!! The blankets will be given to these children as a tangible sign that God loves them and has them covered with His love. The blankets are saving lives of children and giving them a hope for the future.

Now we need to pay for these blankets and others that we have given to “cover up” children that are keeping them “warm for the first time”! We continue to give the blankets away for we must be obedient to do what God put in our hearts. When He showed us the need, He impressed upon us to “do something about it!” We need your help to meet the need.

A warm blanket for only $5! A blanket that will change and save a precious life and give a child a hope for the future is to us a tremendous bargain. Please help us help these children with as generous a gift as you can at this time. But also remember that ANY gift will help cover a child.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement to keep “covering up” His children! You can be part of a child saying, “For the First Time, I will be Warm!”

May God richly bless you as you bless others.

Bruce and Camella

P.S. Please consider providing monthly financial support to ”Operation Cover Up.”

Time is a most prized commodity and wireless internet a rare commodity at City of Refuge for our Girlfriends Team.

Hard work is the routine for the entire Team whether leading VBS, painting a room, or helping to prepare meals. The payoff:

The sounds of children’s voices wafting through the mountains singing “Jesus Is the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me”

Two adults standing guard at the bedroom of 4 young girls in an effort to “surprise” those girls with a room makeover done in vibrant pink and a beautiful blue with their own personalized pillowcase.

Sharing community in the kitchen and dining area with some amazing women, Kim who inspires us all (City of Refuge director) and Norma (our cook who is always ready with a smile and awesome food too).

Four days down: two days of dynamic, boot scooting VBS; 3 rooms completed and children squealing with excitement at their new bedding; teenage girls proudly showing off their pedicures; and, new friendships forged between Texas women and Jamaican children.

Yes…Jesus is the BEST thing that has ever happened to us!

As the Jamaicans say “out of many, one people.” It seems that even before fourteen Girlfriends departed American soil for their highly anticipated missions trip to the City of Refuge Orphanage in the mountainous area outside Kingston Jamaica, we experienced this in our own group.

Diversity in talents, skills and giftings…Diversity in age, race and culture…Diversity in personality, habits and walks of life.

Isn’t this what makes a missions trip? Diversity in a group ascends upon another land and another culture to impact – and to be impacted!

The team – 14 Girlfriends from Trinity Church, Cedar Hill TX. City of Refuge Orphanage – our home for seven days. Our mission – a Holy Spirit led Vacation Bible School and a house makeover (paint, curtains, bedding, and bathroom accessories). The results – stay tuned to find out.

As our capable driver, Giao, safely maneuvers us through the streets of Danang, my hearing is assaulted by the numerous horns honking. I begin to think about the use of car horns in Vietnam. My American perspective of car horns – we use our horns as a statement of aggression – warning drivers to get out of our way. Car horns in Vietnam? Much different perspective. Horns are used as an act of courtesy – by honking their horns, drivers tell one another “I see you and I want you to know I am here.” A conflict of perspective.

Our journey takes us to Hoi An orphanage. Once again, my senses are assaulted – the smells, the sights. And, I have the opportunity to ponder on another conflict of perspectives. We Americans, arriving at the orphanage, are “armed” with candy and small bottles of bubbles to give to the children. As I pass out my allotment of bubbles, I consider another conflict of perspective. When giving a bottle of bubbles to a child at home in America, in most cases I would be giving the child something to do, something to free up my time and fill up theirs. Here at Hoi An orphanage, I give bubbles to make a connection with a child – to open the door so I can become part of their world. Definitely a conflict of perspective.

At Hoi An, my eyes are riveted to a child in a swinging bassinet peering over the wooden sides. It is evident that a disability prohibits this child from participating in activities as some of the other children are. As I move closer, what I see is a shock. From my perspective, this child is a prisoner in her own body. Her limbs are deformed, her head the size of a small watermelon, she is covered in scabies, and wearing filthy clothes (including a handmade diaper). She is the victim of hydroencephalitis (water on the brain) – something easily corrected at birth in America. And then, something happened, she reached out her arms. I picked Hong up and we began a short journey to the courtyard. Immediately, my perspective changed. Her face broke into a smile as she saw the sun and the other children playing. She began to laugh and move both her hands and feet with giddy excitement. No longer a prisoner in her own body, a simple action of picking up a 12 year old child and carrying her to the courtyard changed her perspective and mine. Today for me – this was a conflict of perspective.

But I wonder….will I experience in my lifetime another conflict of perspective? Will the perspective I have experienced of Vietnamese children suffering from disease and imprisoned in their own bodies one day be conflicted? That is my hope…that one day that perspective will be no more as I see children’s lives in Vietnam full of hopes, dreams and health! I long for that conflict in perspective.

Just one of thousands!

Thanks to everyone for the support that has been given to purchase blankets for the children of Zimbabwe and for the ongoing needs for the children in Vietnam who need life giving surgeries. Camella and I are truly blessed by your willingness to come alongside of us to help the children of these countries and give them a hope for the future.

Camella is leaving July 2 for Vietnam to work with Giving It Back To Kids through the many programs that we have supported for the past 8 years. She will not only check on recipients that NNMSII has sponsored in the past, but I’m confident she will find more children to help.

Four days after she returns from Vietnam she will lead a group of ladies to Jamaica to work with an orphanage in that troubled country. I’m again very confident she will discover many needs to help the children she will be meeting on this trip as well.

Today we received requests for several thousand more blankets to “cover up” the children of Zimbabwe who are infected with HIV. We have committed to purchase all of the blankets that our friend, Dr. Andrew Reid, has identified. We need to show these children that God loves them, knows their need and has a blanket of love to cover them. We have agreed to purchase a minimum of 1,000 blankets each month but that amount will not be nearly enough. The temperatures in Zimbabwe are now freezing at night and thousands of children have no blanket!!

Over the past 3 years you have helped us distribute over 10,000 blankets!! Thank you!!! But many more thousands are needed and we will not stop doing what we can to “cover up” every child that needs a blanket! Blankets are only $5 each! Just think what $10 could do – or $100 – or $1000!

The needs are huge but our God is bigger than we think!!

Please prayerfully consider helping us to continue funding these urgent needs that help give these precious children a hope for the future by showing them God’s love for them.

May God bless you as you bless others.

Sincerely,

Bruce and Camella
